How it Works.

Once I get your pictures, if not otherwise sorted (see below), I will sort them by size air dust each in preparation for scanning.  During the scanning process if there are handwritten notes on the back, they will automatically be captured as a “B” picture.  So each picture will have two scans, a front and a back “B”. Prints are scanned at 600 dpi (double standard print quality), once scanned, they are processed to restore color fade and a minor enhancements to improve overall quality.

If you take the time to sort and organize, I will scan and organize the digital files with the same organizational structure.

Sorting Example:

If you give me a stack of pictures labeled “Brayden’s First year - 1981” or “Yellowstone Family Vacation 1991” , I will put all those scans in a file of the same name as well as tag the meta data, this way when you want to find specific pictures you can easily find them.  You are welcome to give me stacks of organized and unorganized pictures.

If you are pre-sorting, I recommend you stack and rubber band your pictures (not to tightly) with a note card in front with the event or topic name, year ect.

For scanning efficiency, generally I will need them sorted by size.  For example all the 4x6 pictures together, then all the 5x7’s etc.  I can still maintain the organization you desire for folders, they may be a little out of order within the folder.

If your pictures are in an album there is a $25 fee per Album for me to take them out, scan and replace. Please label the album appropriately so I can mimic it in the file structure.

For older albums, its often recommend the pictures be removed and not replaced. Many older Albums were manufactured before archival quality material was available, and can cause extreme image loss over time. Older style ‘stick on’ albums are not reusable once the picture is removed.

Once scanning is complete, I will place the pictures in an Acid Free Archival Quality Storage bin and return them to you (with bin).  For negatives, they will be placed in Archival Quality sleeves, placed in an Archival Binder, and returned to you. I recommend you store them in a dry dark location.

Typical order turn around is about 1 week. Maybe longer for larger orders.

Not only am I scanning your pictures and negatives to preserve them, I am doing my best to ensure the physical copies will last as long as a possible.

Please note, your pictures will be scanned with an automatic feeder system. I have never had the scanner damage a picture (It’s specifically built to handle pictures and stops at the slightest anomaly), however there is a remote possibility of damage. I take extra care for sensitive or fragile prints, and will scan manually if needed. In the event a picture is damaged, I will scan manually and attempt to digitally correct the damage.
